I am left not knowing what to do....I have tried and tried. I am so sick of falling back on this. I have had an addiction since I have been seven...and I have tried so many different things, but I ALWAYS fall back...I know that there is hope but I feel like this addiction has ruined my life and I am so sick of messing up. It leads to so many things, now I have progressed to mess up with other people. It just leads to bad things and I feel awful about it. I know that this church is true. I know it without a doubt! And I know that he cares about me but I feel no way out of this...I want SO badly to think something differnt

Comments:

Dear HelpMe,
"I feel your pain. I think a lot, if not all of us have felt that way. There is hope, and there is a way out. If you've gotten to the point that absolutely nothing you have tried has worked, give the churches ARP program and the Twelve Steps a try. They are the solution to an otherwise hopeless situation. Good luck to you."

You're going to make it
"You've come to the right place, Helpme. We are all just like you...or close enough that we can understand what you are going through. And so many of us have messed up for years and years...but then we were able to apply the atonement and change! We're not perfect, but we're MUCH improved over where we were.

And the addiction recovery program was a big part of that. It's really just a good, hard look at repentance.

You are going to get through this. You are going to leave these sins behind. It IS possible, I promise. Keep coming back here, and go to your meetings. Then, do all the things you should be doing.

We're a team on this site. We love and pray for each other. Welcome!"

There is only going forward
"Dear Helpme, as a daughter of God you are entitled to great blessings from our heavenly father. You were sent here by that same loving God and he knew that life would have challenges and that is why we do have the church and especially the atonement. A hospital is not a place where you go to if you are healthy, it is where you go if you are sick or afflicted. The same with the church, the church is not for the perfect people but for the imperfect. And God set up the church to be a place where we can learn how to perfect ourselves and help others.
You can't go back in the past and change anything. You can't even go back to just a few minutes ago. You can't tell what will happen in the future, but you can know and have control over what you are doing right now, in the present and that is the most important thing. Right now is the time that matters most because right now will effect the future. The past is over with and is now gone, but right now, right this moment is a new time for you and a time to think and act. And with the lords help you can do all things. It is hard but each step each moment that you choose the lord and his will for you is a moment you are getting stronger. Build on that, don't build on the past because it is no longer present. Don't build on the future because it is not here yet, but build on right now. You can do it."

Ether 12:27
"And if men come unto me I will show unto them their aweakness. I bgive unto men weakness that they may be humble; and my cgrace is sufficient for all men that dhumble themselves before me; for if they humble themselves before me, and have faith in me, then will I make weak things become strong unto them.
Your Heavenly Father gave you your weakness, and he also gives you the tools to cure it. He does not give us these things so that he can judge us, damn us, and send us to hell. He wants you to come to Him so that you can learn to be like Him. The easiest way to come to Him is by letting his Spirit in you. Do service for others, read scriptures, and above all else, Fast and Pray.
Cut yourself some slack and don't be so hard on yourself. If you are doing good things to let the spirit in, all your addictions and problems will fade into the backround and disappear.
Good Luck"

Hold to the Rod
"Like Gettinthere, I think we need to stop putting so much weight on our past. We always judge ourselves based on our past. We look back at all the bad things we have done and we think, "That's me...a bad person."

But why should we perceive ourselves based on our past? That isn't how God perceives us. He sees us as his children with the potential to become like him. I believe he focuses on our future. He knows what we can become, and that's why he sent his Son to die for us.

Furthermore, if we are going the right direction when we leave this life, I believe we will continue in that direction forevermore. So, are you doing the best you can? Has there been improvement over the past few years? If so, you are heading the right direction. These addictions will take us all a lifetime to truly overcome. Although we can't be perfect immediately, we can be heading in the right direction right now.

Like Daneadams, I think we need to stop being so hard on ourselves. We make mistakes. We are human. We should look for the positive, the progress, and focus on that. God will take care of the past. God will erase our mistakes. God will change our hearts and our habits, if we will focus on Him and focus on the positive.

I love the promise Nephi makes to his brothers in 1 Ne 15:24: "whoso would hearken unto the word of God, and would hold fast unto it, they would never perish." If we will pick up the Book of Mormon and cling to the rod of iron EVERY DAY, then we will find our way to the tree of life, no doubt about it. We cannot get lost in the mist of darkness or fall into the pit if we are holding the rod. We might slip, trip, or fall on our knees every now and then, but if we have the rod in one hand, we can pull ourselves back up and keep walking to the tree."

Richard G sCOTT Can help
"I saw this quote here on the website and thought that it would be great to share with you incase you haven't seen it.

"I need not define your specific problem to help you overcome it. It doesn’t matter what it is. If it violates the commandments of the Lord, it comes from Satan, and the Lord can overcome all of Satan’s influence through your application of righteous principles. Please understand that the way back is not as hard as it seems to you now. Satan wants you to think that it is impossible. That is not true. The Savior gave His life so that you can completely overcome the challenges you face. "

Link to Addiction Recovery Groups
"I went to an ARP group Sunday. It was led by a recovered addict, there was love in the room, and no one cared who I was or where I came from.

Richard G Scott
"It's interesting to note in the above comment by Richard G Scott.....He says "The Lorc can overcome all of satans influence through YOUR application of righteous prinicpals.

The LORD can overcome this THROUGH us. THAT is why the Lord is SO important in this attack against Satan. WE are powerless to overcome this but the Lord is not. BUT He can only do it for us through our righeous decisions and actions. We will have rightous actions as we draw near unto him, and turn our will over to him. That means at every moment in our lives (especially as we are struggling) we ask Him what He would have us do. As we do His will, we will begin to overcome....no matter how many times we fall, it will get easier as we draw near to him. THIS I KNOW!

May God Bless you in your recovery. Do it now and DO NOT GIVE UP!! No matter how desperate you feel. Go get HELP from those who love you! I Promise you, with all my heart, that your friends and family know of the same dangers and many are struggling themselves or has found a way to overcome this gross and filthy evil in this world. You will be surprised at their support of you. Consider if one of them came to you for help...how would you react. You would love them, help them and overcome it together.

This has been my experience and testimony in this addiction."

THANK YOU
"Thank you all SO much. Wow! I love this site...I cannot even express how amazing all of that was to read. I recently talked to my bishop and I am figuring things out. I know that it is a step by step thing- which is really hard but I know that with the Lords help I, someday, will be able to overcome- or at least control my addiction. It means so much to me ALL of you who commented on this. Thank you SO very very much, all of you really made a difference in my life. I am praying hard for all of you too. best of luck!"
