Day #9 Reading Step One

Wow, this is a humbling focusing chapter. The fact is driven home in the reading today that we are never going to 'work' our way to our salvation, that there are no advances in science, no newly discovered truth, no inspiration given, not even the plans to build a table, except it is given through power of the spirit even if we "know it not"(Brigham Young).
These are humbling details. I look back and wonder at all the things I have taken credit for. These were all opportunities to point to the heavens. This is a journey of humility. I know to a small degree my nothingness when I begin to realize his greatness.
I was stirred yesterday as Elder Holland shared his testimony of the mission of Jesus Christ in conference, as he became very emotional and as I read these verses of this book today and as all this merges into my own desire to change my selfish tendencies and become a servant I realize I am still the benifactor. I know that unselfish service is exactly what is needed by me today, it is pointed out in this chapter that it is out of love. That the reason to stay strong in service, the why is the Love that we have for another, and if not possible the love for that individual cus of contempt the love we have through that individual to the otherside where the Savior is.

Today my prayer is to look for opportunities to serve. To find the ability to overcome my trespasses and to develop into an efficient servant of the Lord.

"If it were possible to make your road very easy, you wouldn’t grow in strength. If you were always forgiven for every mistake without effort on your part, you would never receive the blessings of repentance. If everything were done for you, you wouldn’t learn how to work, or gain self-confidence, or acquire the power to change. "
