chains of hell can be loosed

Alma 5:9 — And again I ask, were the bands of death broken, and the chains of hell which encircled them about, were they loosed? I say unto you, Yea, they were loosed, and their souls did expand, and they did sing redeeming love. And I say unto you that they are saved.
I came across this while reading tonight and I wanted to share it. Sometimes I literally feel like addiction will bring me down for the rest of my life, but when I read a scripture like this it gives me great hope.
I love how it says that their souls did expand after the chains were loosed. Being in bondage is like suffocating, but being in true recovery is like filling your lungs with sweet air. You know you are doing something right when your heart can sing redeeming love. You know you are loosing it when these beautiful feelings start to wear off. Here is to the hope that we can feel this love and peace on a more permanent basis.

"Jesus rejected temptation. When confronted by the great tempter himself, Jesus "[yielded] not to the temptation‚ÄĚ. He countered with scripture. Gospel commandments and standards are our protection also, and like the Savior, we may draw strength from the scriptures to resist temptation."
