Simple question...?

It seemes like a strange fight against what most of the world says is ok...

Is it okay to avoid and believe that masturbation is wrong (sinful) because of my church that I believe is true...?? (Is it simply okay not to masturbate, if you dont want to or believe it is wrong?)

It feels odd to me that I ask the world that question... I already know the answer and I feel a lot better and clear about it... In the past the world's view would depress and confuse me... there cant be a purpose in life under what the world says...

I think I am finaly breaking through my addiction ((with the help of the gospel and Jesus Christ of course)) I will always need help, and I will continue to work on the 12 step program, because you are never finished...

I know I am still loved by the Lord even though I have this problem. I also know that it is actually possable to not do this behavior, and I need to work on and overcome this problem... God gives us weakneses so we may remain humble and seek after his help so that they may be our streghths... kool... sweet... I love this church

There we go... the church's view always makes me feel better

The world rationalizes that masturbation is natural and healthy. However, President Spencer W. Kimball states the Lord’s view as follows: “Prophets anciently and today condemn masturbation. It induces feelings of guilt and shame. It is detrimental to spirituality. It indicates slavery to the flesh, not that mastery of it and the growth toward godhood which is the object of our mortal life. … No young man should be called on a mission who is not free from this practice.” (The Miracle of Forgiveness, p. 77.)

One example: masturbation is considered by many in the world to be the harmless expression of an instinctive sex drive. Teach your children that the prophets have condemned it as a sin throughout the ages and that they can choose not to do it.The sin of masturbation occurs when a person stimulates his or her own sex organs for the purpose of sexual arousal. It is a perversion of the body’s passions. When we pervert these passions and intentionally use them for selfish, immoral purposes, we become carnal.

thanks
"Could it be similar to the word of wisdom counsel to not drink alcohol, or smoke, or whatever? - because not everyone who drinks will become an alcoholic, but if you never drink you will never have to discover that you are an alcoholic - Same with mb - if you avoid it at all costs like you would drugs or alcohol you will never turn into a sexaholic - and we don't know who can "handle it" and who can't - if it's avoided we will never discover that "sex" can be used as an avoidance technique, or for comfort when stressed, or escape from reality - just like one would use alcohol in a similar way...
i dunno - just thinking "outloud"
Thank you for your sharing your thoughts and testimony of the gospel"

Stay Strong
"Hope you are still around - not many still posting here anymore. Good to see such drive and desire to gain self mastery -- if anyone can Gondor - it is you. Stay strong and pray hard -- the Lord has need of you and your strength -- don't ever give in or give up!

Yes... I am still here
"Yes... I am still here, I am doing good... It is not impossable to stop this problem, much of the world will say things that are easy for the carnel mind... If people can stop drinking, and smoking then it is possable to be clean from this. I dont have to see myself as a animial anymore, I am not just some stupid teenager who would through away virtue just for selfishness... they will say it is me, I say it is my body... it is a sin... I dont have to be defind by it anymore, I never had to. let it go... just let it go...

"Whoever is in control of that past is in control of the future... Whoever is in control of the present is in control of the past." ... ...

I wish I never had this problem, I wish I could have been informed better, I didnt know about this or that it was so difficult, everthing the church said was true... it just got worse and worse ... the devil's trick... If I was willing to do this why would I stop... it got worse... then I started to look at pornography... It dosent matter what the world says... the natural man is an enemy to god and has been scince the fall of adam and will be forever unless he yeilds to the inticings of the holy spirit and putith off the natural man and becometh a saint through the power and atoinment of Jesus Christ. It dosent matter what they say is normal or natural that will not make it right, or a good thing...

There is no need for excuses though, this has helped me understand the atoinment and the church better... whats done is done, and I am doing great now, it will always be diffcult, I will always need the savior's help, but at least I know........

"Now brethren, the time has come for any one of us who is so involved to pull himself out of the mire, to stand above this evil thing, to “look to God and live” (Alma 37:47). We do not have to view salacious magazines. We do not have to read books laden with smut. We do not have to watch television that is beneath wholesome standards. We do not have to rent movies that depict that which is filthy. We do not have to sit at the computer and play with ographic material found on the Internet."

— Gordon B. Hinckley
