Addiction, Introcudtion

In the last 20 months, I’ve dug into the causes of pornography addiction and why it’s so difficult to overcome it. I’ve spent at least 500 hours researching it. What I researched was based primarily on my own experience with porn addiction and how I was healed. I looked into the physiological aspects and what the scientific community has to say. I read lots of things about all the biochemicals produced by the body and the feelings they produce, and how that leads to addiction. I came to the conclusion that this is a contributing factor, but not the cause.

For those of you who are new to LDSAR, I was addicted to porn for 48 years and narcotics for 11 years. It wasn’t until my wife, who has the gift of discerning those who are possessed by evil spirits, realized I was possessed by several unclean spirits. I went to my bishop after my final relapse and when he gave me a blessing, cast out several unclean spirits from me; I felt them leave. When I left his office, all my compulsions, along with a number of other nasty character traits, were gone.

I’ve always felt that one of the problems with trying to explain the causes of porn addiction is that the physiological component (biochemicals) is secondary to the main cause. Addiction is a spiritually based illness with physiological manifestations. I came across some church talks that explained this.

“One of the false notions of our society is that we are victims of our appetites and passions. But the truth is that the body is controlled by the spirit which inhabits it. No one can claim that his spirit is controlled by his body. The spirit tells the body what to do—and barring defects in physiology, the body responds. The body has the capacity only to respond; the spirit directs. Moral cleanliness is a condition of one’s individual spirit. A lustful spirit uses the body as a tool to carry out its purposes. A spirit seeking first the kingdom of God will direct the body in a righteous course.” (Terrence D. Olson, “Teaching Morality to Your Children” Ensign Mar 1981)

“…It is primarily the spirit that sees, hears, feels, knows passion and desire; it is the spirit that becomes addicted to drugs, bad habits, and evil desires. It is not just the physical body that is addicted, but the spirit also, which, of course, is the real you and me. We are spirits just as God is a spirit” (Hartman Rector, Jr., Conference Report, Oct 1970, Pg. 73).

This is why the ARP, now HOPE program is spiritually based without talking about the biochemicals and modern drugs to supposedly help curb addiction. I’ve maintained in the past, and since I left LDSAR, my research has convinced me even more, that true porn/sex addiction is the result of being possessed by unclean spirits. For those of you who think that possession by evil spirits is an uncommon occurrence, think again. It happens on a regular basis.

I’m going to go over this in detail in a long series of blogs that will explain my assertions. I have collected literally dozens of quotes from Joseph Smith, Brigham Young, Wilford Woodruff, Parley P. Pratt, Orson Pratt, Orson Hyde and a couple dozen others regarding evil spirits and how they afflict, torment and possess people. Stay tuned.
