I am so glad that families have not been without help these months-years that the church has been struggling to put one out. I was appalled when they pulled the Healing through Christ pilot, from our area, and went back to the arp guide for family support.

Last Friday the Church went live with the new family support manual it is found at

http://addictionrecovery.lds.org/spouses-and-families/1?lang=eng

I will still keep the other versions, especially the manual that is found exclusively on this site, for people to use.

The greater Las Vegas area will be starting using the new guide this week. I would be interested to know how this version compares to other versions. I am especially interested in the spouses of Porn addicts. I am a recovering porn addict and a missionary for the pasg program.

Comments:

please keep the family/spouses manual on this site!!
"I was told that the new family support manual was the 8th version through correlation . I am disappointed that so much of the meat was taken out. I understand that they wanted a version that can be used for support of addictions of all kinds and not just for pornography and sexual ones. I am afraid that they watered down to much of the content. All of our groups here will be forced to use the new church authorized version, but I sure will push for the study of the real version( found on this site),during the week between meetings. In our pasg brothers group we have library copies of the book( Clean Hands Pure Heart) to use for study during the week. We used this book for years before the church came out with the arp guide, it is addiction specific and is a great pairing with the arp guide. I guess that we will have to have 2 books for the pasg family support as well.
I am so thankful for this site and the materials and support found here"

Our Group Started The New Guide
"Thank you, HarveyF, for both posting the new link and keeping the other book. This new guide is just what has been needed as a "triage kit" for the spouse. I agree that it is watered down, but in the beginning of this healing process it is all we can take at first. I had one sister comment that it was as though they opened up her head and took out every thought, care, fear or concern and put it in this book. I really think there is a place for the manual that is on this site too. A great deal of information, I own a hard copy myself and refer to it often. It is just not in a format that one step could be covered in one meeting. I hope to see some type of progression between this new guide and an additional meeting like the difference between Gospel Principles and Gospel Doctrine Sunday School classes.
Love this site!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you sooooooo much!!!!!!!!!"

Dissapointed they dropped the 12 steps from the New Guide
"I'm a 21 year veteran of Al-Anon and a group leader for a family support group. I was very disappointed to see that they have dropped the 12 steps from the family support manual. Al-anon saved my sanity (and possibly my life) and it would not have worked without the 12 step process. I do feel this version is too watered down for a real change to happen. I'm trying to keep an open mind, but I'm very sad."

Putting it to the test
"Our group has been putting this new manual to the test and it has been bring very good responses. My personal recovery began with the 12 step ARP book. As the wife of an addict I was very angry that it was talking to the addict and not to me. So my first book was full of scribbles and four letter words. I got a new book and started to work the program for myself. I found great help and hope for myself this second time through. I continued to attend groups and was very skeptical when the book changed. Our group is on step 9 and it has been building on each other. My feeling is that it is a 1 or 2 time through book or it could be easy to get caught in the victim mentality. The 12 step program really identifies how to be spiritually changed and healed. My suggestion would be to spouses to do this book for yourself. It is good. It has a great purpose, then do the 12 step program to continue in the healing."

"In recent years, as I have sung the hymns of the Atonement, it has been with an especially full heart—and also with full voice, when I can continue to sing—lines such as “How great thou art,” “I scarce can take it in,” “To rescue a soul so rebellious and proud as mine,” “I stand all amazed,” and “Oh, it is wonderful!”"
