Forgiveness
"Not everybody is going to agree with me on this one but this is my .02

You are already forgiven. You were forgiven before you sinned. Heck, you were forgiven before you were born. Jesus' forgiveness is free to those who will simply pick it up. He made the atonement along time ago and it is 100%.

All you have to do is forgive yourself now."

"Latter-Day Saint doctrine teaches that we are saved by faith in Christ, grace and works. Works are the smallest part of it, but each part is significant.

Study on the topic of repentance in the Gospel Principles manual. You can find it here:

https://www.lds.org/manual/gospel-principles/chapter-19-repentance?lang=eng

When your sins are forgiven through Christ's grace you will find peace of conscience."

Wish i knew
"Sharkeisha,
I appreciate the question. i wish I knew exactly. I imagine that some of it comes when you are no longer looking over your shoulder ashamed of your past. I guess i am still repenting and working trhough hings because my wife will often bring things up from the past and I feel bad about them. I hope to someday experience and know for myself. Thanks again for your question"

Going with Maddy...
"Your sins have been forgiven. That's what Christ was for.

The question is whether YOU, yourself, will forgive and move past them. The question is whether YOU will remit them. Remit is what you do when you take a coupon down to your store and exchange it for a valuable product. Is that coupon worth anything? No. Is the product? Yes.

If you aren't yet feeling forgiven, may I suggest it's because you are clinging to your sins and you aren't ready to give them up. You feel like keeping them as a part of you. Perhaps you want to keep returning to them. Perhaps you want them to be a reminder of your past to keep you from making those mistakes again. Perhaps you want your sins to stick to you because you don't feel worthy of being clean.

Whatever the reason, you are hanging on to your sins like a worthless coupon. Take them to Christ and exchange them for his love and blessings.

He will accept you. He will accept your sins. He has already taken them from you. Give them to him. Allow yourself to feel his love and forgiveness. Forgive yourself.

You are a child of God with infinite worth. God loves you and accepts you. You are loved and desired. You are loveable despite your past. Christ knows what you have done, and he still loves you. Love yourself."

"Now, my brothers and sisters, let not Jesus’ redemption for us stop at the immortalizing dimension of the Atonement, “the loosing of the bands of death”. Let us grasp the proffered gift of eternal life! We will end up either choosing Christ’s manner of living or His manner of suffering! It is either “suffer even as I”, or overcome “even as [He] … overcame”. His beckoning command is to become “even as I am”. The spiritually settled accept that invitation, and “through the atonement of Christ,” they become and overcome! "
