Reasons for food addiction

Step 4 - Key Principle — Make a searching and fearless written moral inventory of yourself.
1. Comfort, in times of stress, neglect by other, saddness, depression
2. Reward for hard work. Usually most of my work is cerebral, but I still feel tired at the end of the day. Down time is watching TV or Reading, and of course eating something comforting.
3. Mindless grazing, whenever I walk past something that is on the counter. I need to keep the kitchen clean, only fruits, or veggies in view...get rid of sugar stashes, do the draw isn't there.
4. Childhood lack of comfort, emotional neglect. My mother had her own demons to conquer and didn't have a lot of time for tenderness, or closeness to us. Since I was the oldest, I had to step up as mom, when she was non-functional. No one was there to tell me that I was doing good, or valued. Food at that time became an ally for me, a comfort...and of course I was heavy even then because of it. Once my mother put a sign on me, "Don't feed me" so neighbors wouldn't give me snacks. How embarrassing. but since I feared her, I kept it on. A little understanding from her would have gone a long ways I think.
