Looking for something

I've never participated in a blog before but I wanted to try something different. I've been working to become clean for a long time now, several years in fact and I have learned so much through the journey. I've have gone from bingeing several times a day to now where I may only binge once every two weeks. I truly believe that my relationship with the savior has been strengthen because of my addiction but I know that this is a thorn in my side that my savior has challenged me to pull out through his help. I want to express my gratitude to everyone here for your willingness to face your fears and share your faith. I have felt the voice of the lord call to me, assuring me that I can overcome my addictions even though I know it will be the hardest thing that I will ever do. It has been hard for me to become close to the girls that I have been dating because I have this constant fear that if they truly knew who I was and my weaknesses they would reject me, or even worse accept me as I bring this horrible baggage into our relationship. I've title this post "Looking for something" because in truth I'm not sure what it is I'm searching for by joining this group. Perhaps it is just a place to come in times when the temptations seem to be pressing down. I'm also a little afraid because it seems the harder I try to overcome my additions the worse I become at resisting them. I want to try again, to rise to my knees and hope that I can be strengthen just a little more. "Recovery through writing" is what I hope might be what makes the difference.

Welcome aboard
"Glad to have you here. Talking and writing along with finding that we aren't alone in this can be very helpful. The biggest thing is developing a strong, personal relationship with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He is the only one with the power to pull us safely through those times you mentioned when Satan turns up the heat. When we are weak He will carry us. If you haven't already, I would encourage you to get into a Twelve Step program. The Church has a great one and schedules can be found at recovery program...adiction recovery support groups. You didn't come right out and say it, but it sounds like you might be dealing with pornography. They have specific meetings for that as well as general ones. If my guess is right and you can't find enough specific meetings, the general ones are great and they don't care what your addiction of choice is. A friend at my first meeting said, “We all have a hole and we are trying to fill it with something.”

I wish you recovery. It does get better.

"Man has a dual nature; one, related to the earthly or animal life; the other, akin to the divine. Whether a man remains satisfied within what we designate the animal world, satisfied with what the animal world will give him, yielding without effort to the whim of his appetites and passions and slipping farther and farther into the realm of indulgence, or whether, through self-mastery, he rises toward intellectual, moral, and spiritual enjoyments depends upon the kind of choice he makes every day, nay, every hour of his life"
