It seems everyday that it is a struggle...I know that going to meetings is important, however it is more then that. It is hard when finances are struggling...and currently work is slow...This is when I feel like what is going on..How am i supposed to take care of my family...This is when it gets harder to fight the temptations....

"You can do it!

When my husband and I started this journey, we found out that there are deeper issues at play than the SA. It is something that goes back to when you were a child (or even an adult) and how you learned to deal with your emotions and challenges. For example, my husband was continually emotionally abused. The way his family works is to get a "one-up" on each other in hurtful comments and/or actions. So, he feels like he's doomed to make really bad choices and he's a loser. Really, he's not. But, it's what he feels and expects to have happen in his life. His emotional thermostat has been stuck to everyone but himself.

So, have courage! What if you lose your job or have no work? Well, the obvious. But, you don't lose the good parts of you or anything. Don't let bad things that happen BECOME you. I'm not sure if that makes sense... lol

If you slip up, well, that's crappy. But, find out why (HALTBS= Hungry, Angry, Tired, Bored and/or Stressed), and then build a wall of tools you can use when you are struggling with one of those things. Meditate, do affirmations, call a SA friend, spiritual stuff, meetings, therapist, etc."

"Thanks for the encouraging comments Confidence...I really appreciate it..I know I can do this..I know how important it is..I am grateful for this website.I know that when the temptations are there I can come here and read what others are going through. I even get a stronger sensation to stop my addiction and because there are so many of you out there to help and give me insight from another perspective...and that is from a woman's point of view..other then my wife's....Thank you again.."

Everyday IS a struggle....
"I've struggled for 20+ years
many men on this site have struggled for 40 years
President Jeffrey Holland said once in a church meeting that he is the president of the "Strugglers Club"

I loved that... we all must take up our cross each day as men...
God's way is EASIER!! but it's not a cakewalk... we walk with his grace... but we must remember him always.. and keep his commandments.

I testify that God is a GOD of Miracles... he has the power to change your life in 3 months to a life that you could literally not imagine... (this has happened to me)

I love the scripture in the book of mormon where it says "even the high priests were amazed"

because when a man like you and me (and we are just normal everyday men) SACRIFICE.. and really lay our heart out to him in a quiet prayer... HE NOTICES EVERY WORD... and I BELIEVE he answers every one of those prayers.

learning how to SURF God's waves is a skill... but it's so much more fun... than paddling your whole life :)"

"The solution to this problem ultimately is neither governmental nor institutional. Nor is it a question of legality. It is a matter of individual choice and commitment. Agency must be understood. The importance of the will in making crucial choices must be known. Then steps toward relief can follow."

— Russell M. Nelson
