We went through step 2 on Thursday...... for me not feeling the spirit its really hard. And the people got into a conversation aout the spirit and not feeling it. Well hey thays me ya know. And they were talking about the different levels of heaven and about those who dont feel the spirit at all. Being that the telestial kingdom is where the spirit visits and people feel it even there and many people feel an inkling here, have i been cast to outer darkness since i can remember? I wasnt a bad teen i wasnt involved with my addi tion then. But i never felt the spirit. Not even an inkling.
Evn now im working harder and harder and doing everything in my will. I dont feel it still. Ive done what people have suggested. Its not working. And its getting more and more frustrating. I cant do this. I feel like another brick in the wall. Im not going no where even with my efforts.

Im lost

you arent alone
"I have heard many people comment at SAA meetings that step 2 and 3 are the hardest to do. They are hard because its hard to let go and surrender to a higher power. People and addicts in particular struggle with maintaining control. They struggle believing that God could let them have the trials they received.

Somehow though, they all seem to make it past this after months and months of efforts at times.

have faith. faith beats fears."

Lost but not forgotten
"I know I also struggle at times to feel the Spirit and it is not a constant companion because of my thoughts and actions, which is something I am continually working on. I think the important thing is that we all feel the Spirit in different ways. If that is something you are struggling with then I would recommend really getting to know yourself, pay attention to your emotions, how things around you influence your emotions, and simply pray to feel the Spirit. It is more of a learning or self-discovery process. If I had to guess I would say you have felt the Spirit, but you simply did not recognize it as such. God loves you and has not forgotten you."

The wait...
"Sometimes people wander, looking for the promised land for a long, long time. The children of Israel, Lehi and his family are just two examples. There is a promised land that is full of the fruits of the Spirit for you too. You may have to go through the wilderness to find it though. I know I did. But in hind site, like Blindman suggested, I can see that I was feeling the Spirit along the way, but at first I didn't recognize it.

Some steps that I find useful in recognizing the Spirit are to follow any given prompting that I feel no matter how strange it may seem at the time. At first it was common for it to be me have a thought, and other times it was the Spirit, but the outcome would normally let me know which was which. When I followed and it lead to an increased sense of peace, joy, revelation, or a spiritual experience then I knew it had been the Spirit. When it led to a dead end then I could usually see how I had just been leading myself around by the nose. Over time, I saw the difference between my own thoughts and the promptings of the Spirit. But I could also see how I had been feeling it all along. Though as I follow it more, I feel it more. It grows in frequency that I feel it as well as intensity.

I don't know if this will help, but for whatever it is worth, here it is.

Good Luck TL. Like Blindman said, Heavenly Father loves you and is reaching for you. Trust that even if you don't feel it yet."

The Joe and Charlie tapes helped me with Step 2 and 3
"I was introduced to Joe and Charlie by a friend in SA. They both have 30+ years of Sobriety from AA. Their insights were fantastic and very helpful to me. I would encourage you if you would like to take a look / listen to the talks. You can get them on the Internet for free."

Joe and Charlie are AA staples.
"Every AA with some time under their belt has gone through the Joe and Charlie tapes. They are two old-timers that broke down the 12 Steps and AA's Big Book into workable sections. They used to have AA meetings that would play the tapes in order. I am so happy to hear that they translate to SA too. They were a huge help for me early in recovery."

Joe and Charlie
"I found this link. There are several on the web.

It has been extremely helpful to know and understand where the 12 steps came from. Joe and Charlie do a great job telling the story."

"In a decaying environment, the mind is the last redoubt of righteousness, and it must be preserved even amid bombardment by evil stimuli. Christ is competent to see us through, “for in that he himself hath suffered being tempted, he is able to succour them that are tempted” As promised, He will make either “a way to escape” or a way “to bear it”."
